Big Tech Wins Again

Apple's idea of email is questionable at best, trying to use it for Delta Chat is an *~~experience~~*

If you’ve known me long enough, you’ll know that I am an avid user, promoter, and lover of all that is Delta.Chat.

I love this messenger built on top of existing communication method, it is amazing, and recently they’ve released a ChatMail package where you can install an email server specifically for people to use to easily onboard into this glorious chatting experience.

I saw this and I saw deltachat.me was an available domain and I went for it.

When I originally tried to install ChatMail on one of my servers I had some problems, mainly because it was a very Alpha release but also because I wasn’t using a clean server. I played at it for a while before changing tact and setting up your standard Postfix/Dovecot thing and waiting until I had some free hardware or money to use another VPS for this project.

This setup worked until the last week when for some unknown reason and problems my Oracle server just either halts or mail starts to vanish into nowhere. Not cool.

This morning I had to make a decision and it is what I do about this, I don’t have any own hardware I can relocate this server to, I have exactly 2,30€ in my bank account, and until I’m actually employed I don’t have any funds to be splashing out on a VPS.

What I do have is an iCloud account, what I also have is a secondary iCloud email account I can temporarily use to move deltachat.me on to.

So it happened, I had to sell out to Big Tech because that’s what choice I have, and I’m already having problems – mails are randomly being policy killed and the filters don’t work for shit. What a great provider, good for you Apple, you tried.

Anyways, until I can fix this I’m hoping that iCloud will be less shit than my shonky OCI server.
